Like really, shoutout to all the shallots out there! Never was a onion person until I started cooking for real and realized that onions give awesome flavor to food. One of my favorite onions is the shallot. I like to say they are the queen of onions. They give your food a better taste than other onions (my opinion). Don’t get me wrong I still like my sweet and red onions.
Shallots have a flaky golden/bronze skin, they are firm and heavy (things you should look for when buying shallots). Store them in a cool dark place and they will last several days. They also keep well in your refrigerator. Shallots have a mild pungent taste unlike onions and garlic. So they won’t make your breath smell as bad! When you cut into them they have a pretty translucent and purple color. Plus they are healthy for you.
Next time your recipe calls for onions, try a shallot! You can also fry these up, sauté, pickle them, eat them raw. How ever you eat them, they are delicious.
