Sooooo y’all, this was my first time frying chicken! Yes…my first time. Im not a big fan of fried foods plus grease terrifies me. I don’t like the smell of it or when it pops on you! I swear I’ll run out the kitchen when grease gets to popping! But I do crave a good fried piece of juicy crispy chicken here and there. So I decided to fry some up myself instead of hitting up Popeyes. I found a recipe and adapted it to my liking. I did a quick buttermilk and flour dredge. Pulled out my trusty thermometer to make sure the grease was at 350. Carefully dropped in my chicken and slowly backed away from the grease lol!! It came out so good, I was proud! Plus the honey lemon pepper I poured over, set it off to the next level! Even tho it was delicious, I won’t be frying chicken on the regular. Just every blue moon.

- 6 pieces of chicken wings washed and cleaned
- 2 sazon packets
- 5 tsp salt
- 5 tsp pepper
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1-2 cups buttermilk
- 5 shakes of hot sauce or more
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp pepper
- 24 oz vegetable oil
- 1 lemon zested and juiced
- 4 tsp pepper
- 1-2 tbsp honey
Instructions
- Start off by seasoning your chicken with sazon, salt, pepper + garlic powder. Add in your buttermilk + hot sauce. Set aside in fridge.*
- Mix together your lemon zest, juice, pepper + honey and bring to a slight boil. Set aside but keep warm.
- Now lets start heating your oil up to 350 degrees. Meantime mix your flour, cornstarch, salt + pepper.
- Once your oil is at temperature. Go ahead and add your chicken to the flour. Coat it real good and shake off any extra. Carefully place in your oil and cook for 7-10 minutes.
- Place cooked chicken on plate with paper towels and dust with a few sprinkles of salt. Once ready to plate, pour over your honey lemon pepper sauce and serve!
