Cheesesteaks are so good but have you ever had a vegan one? Whelp! Here’s your chance to make one. Its super easy and delicious. A can of jackfruit some sliced peppers, onions + mushrooms seasoned perfectly and topped with gooey vegan cheese inside of toasty bread! I feel no way that no chicken was involved. Jackfruit is by far my favorite meat alternative. Give this recipe a try, I promise you won’t miss chicken!
Vegan "Chicken" Cheesesteaks
Ingredients
- 1 can of jackfruit in brine
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 red pepper sliced
- 1/2 small onion sliced
- 1/2 cup mushrooms sliced
- 3 garlic cloves chopped
- 1-2 tbsp seasoning of your choice
- 1 tbsp vegan worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp pepper
Instructions
- Drain your jackfruit and rinse them. Cut off the somewhat hard tips off OR keep it and just chopped it all up.
- In a skillet warm up your olive oil on medium heat. Add in your jackfruit along with your seasonings and worcestershire sauce. Cook 7-10 minutes stirring.
- Add in your sliced pepper, onion and mushrooms along with pepper. Add more oil if needed. Cook another 3-5 minutes stirring.
- Toss in your garlic and stir for 1 minute. Taste for seasoning.
- Turn heat low and toss in your vegan cheese. Mix in until melted. Serve hot on toasted bread with lettuce tomato and vegan mayo. Enjoy!
Notes
I seasoned this with Trader Joes Vegan Chicken-less seasoning plus a pinch of complete seasoning.
Do not season this with a lot salt because the jackfruit been sitting in a brine.
Make this vegetarian and use regular mayo and cheese.
